Erik H. Askelsen is a Senior Vice President and Associate General Counsel of Aviva USA. In his role, Erik is responsible for managing Aviva’s litigation and legal and regulatory issues associated with product development, life insurance and annuity administration, distribution of Aviva’s products, and risk mitigation efforts.

Prior to his role as a Senior Vice President in Legal, Erik led Aviva’s Advanced Markets and Case Design teams within Sales and Distribution and spent three years in Aviva’s Legal Department as Vice President of Litigation.

Prior to joining Aviva in 2007, Erik was a partner in the Kansas City office of Stinson Morrison Hecker LLP. He also previously served as a judicial law clerk for David R. Hansen, an appeals court judge in the Eighth Circuit, and for Monti L. Belot, a district court judge in the United States District Court for the District of Kansas.

Erik received his law degree from the University of Kansas, and his B.B.A. in Finance from the University of Iowa.
